How often:

Twice a Month 30%
Monthly 15%

Assessments:
AIMS Web
Dibels

What I need:
An AWSOME way to monitor comprehension in grades 3-5.  We have Dibels available to us.  We also use running records.  I feel like there needs to be a better retell component to Dibels.

I'd love for you to leave a comment if you've got an awesome solution to my 3rd-5th problem :)

  1. Bridget, I feel your pain on trying to find quality progress monitoring for the upper grades. For most of our older students we progress monitor reading words with prefixes and suffixes. Also, we progress monitor their fluency and comprehension. I have used Reading A-Z for the fluency. I was using another site for the comprehension passages, but was never fully satisfied with them. This year I have switched over to readworks.org for the comprehension. My teachers really like that site and there are leveled passages for both literary and informational text. Hope that helps!

  2. Bridget,

I can echo what Lori (from above) said! I STILL have not found a satisfactory way to quickly progress monitor comprehension. My district uses AimsWeb for progress monitoring in all areas (RCBM, MAZE, MCAP and MCOMP) yet I don't feel it gives me enough in terms of monitoring comprehension. Recently I have started using Readworks.org.....and I also am trying out CSR (collaborative strategic reading). Some of my fellow interventionists use Reading A to Z running records (the benchmark passages).....and I am wondering if there is a way to adapt the DRA to monitor comprehension. There is just so much to do in terms of reading intervention!!
